Evaluation - Question 4

Question 4 How did you use media technology in the construction, research and planning and evaluation stages?

Photoshop
I used photoshop to make my magazine cover and film poster, the program helped mt to create a proffesional looking poster and magazine, i did this by using various tools which are seen in the ishowu i created.

Imovie
I was in charge of editing the trailer so i used imovie to do this by using cuts, transitions effects, i also took part in creating the sound for the trailer which was done on garage band but i also editing bits of the sound on imovie to make it go with the footage.

Prezi
I used prezi to do my publication plan for my magazine, this helped me create

Garageband
I used garageband to create some of the sound used on the trailer, i have also used garageband throughout the course to do podcast, voice overs etc.

Blogger
I used blogger to basically keep record of my research and planning while making the trailer and also doing the evaluation, i was also able to upload things on my blog to facebook to get som audience feedback. I did this with my trailer and poster to see what people on facebook thought of them.

SLR Digital Camera
I used an SLR camera to get good quality images to go on my film magazine and poster.

Youtube
I put the trailer on youtube to make it easier to access i also did this to see how many views it would get and to get some audience feedback

Microsoft Word
I used microsoft word when doing some of my research and planning for example when i did my questionnaire and graphs

Ishowu
I used the ishowu program when doing some of my evaluation questions, I used the program to show how i did certain things on my trailer, poster and magazine.

Evaluation - Question 1

In what ways does your media products use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Teaser Trailer
When making our teaser trailer we used typical codes and conventions a horror film, not only did we do this but in some ways we developed the idea and even challenged it which made it individual and different from other horror film trailers. In my evaluation i am going to compare my teaser trailer to the Last Exorcism trailer because this is the film that inspired us to do this type of horror.
Here are some ways in which i think we used codes and conventions of a horror.

Possessed

The teaser trailer is quite gory,
which is typical of a teaser trailer.

I used the idea from The Last
Exorcism of using possessed girl
as the villain.

We used a priest in our teaser trailer which is seen in The Last Exorcism.

I used a similar font to the one used in The Last Exorcism.

Develop

Looking at this scene in the trailer i think we developed it, the blue gradient over the shot makes it a bit different. The blue gradient is seen in the film paranormal activity although it hasn't really been seen in a 'possessed' type film.
I think that this is quite original,
it was our own idea, although it has
probably been used in a lot of
other horror films.

Challenge

In this scene we used a church setting, i think this is original because you wouldn't really expect a 'possessed girl' who has been taken over by the devil to be a church.

Looking at the films such as The Last Exorcism, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, it doesn't really show how they became possessed so we thought it would be a good idea to use a ouiji board as i havnt really seen it in other horror films.

We also challenged the Clovers theory of the final girl, the final girl in our film is the villain but also the victim.

Film Poster

Use

I used a similar font type in my film poster to the one used in The Last Exorcism, i also made the text red to represent blood in the film which is a typical convention of a horror film.

I used the protagonist in the film in the poster, i also didnt use a lot of colour in my poster so that the red stood out more which is kind of seen in The Last Exorcism poster.

Develop

The big cross used in the background was my own idea, there is a cross in The Last Exorcism poster but its only really tiny so i think i developed the idea by putting a bigger cross in the background.

The fact that her eyes on the poster are glowing red i think develops it, i did this to make her eyes stand out and she also looks really evil.

Challenge

I think that fact that the main character isnt in the cenre of the poster and she doesnt really dominate the poster is how i challenged it, the image also fades into the background. Usually the main character will dominate the poster and stand out a lot more.

Magazine

I used the cross idea from The Rite poster, i challeneged it by using the cross idea on my magazine instead of my poster.

The layout for my magazine is similar to the Empire magazine layout.

Develop

I developed my magazine by putting the close up in the shape of a cross in the centre and not putting the stories down the side which makes the main image stand out more.

Challenged

I challenged my magazine when doing the masthead, instead of having it all one colour i used two, i also reversed the text and make the word 'carpet' transparent.
